I have chosen to analyse this particular music video as I think the way the whole video is in black and white is quite unique and I would maybe like the include this within my music video. I feel that it limits the video in a good way because your eyes will not be drawn away by bright colours and it enables you to focus on the story and emphasise with the actors involved.
This video opens straight away with a long shot, setting the hectic scene, this is something we are going to include with in our video, however we think that we are going to open with a fade. It has a long ASL of the boy running away from something? Or to someone? The camera then cuts, and pans to the lead singer. This video does contain some performance which we would also like to do, however we will have our actor sing a few lines instead of having the band in the video. The video keeps cutting to the story of this unknown boy, this keeps the audience interested and ask questions such as, who is he? Where is he going? Most of the video includes a long ASL focusing on the boy. This is something we could use in our video as it will possibly portray how our male actors life is slow and long. The video keeps repeating the shot of the actor singing in the same spot, we are going to repeat scenes of the girlfriend shaking her head in disappointment.
There are many different shot types within this video, including and over the shoulder shot which lets us see what he is doing.
This long shot shows the whole band and lets us see their style and attitude. Then it includes a variety of close-ups of each of the band members faces, as if to be introducing them to us.
Suddenly, the boy bikes through the band members, automatically making them actors in the video, and playing the roles of thugs or bullies. The story then continues which the same repeated shots throughout of the close up of the singer and also the story of the boy.
Then finally the story is revealed. This involves close ups of reaction shots and fast cuts between the boy and the girl as if building up to a sudden ending. Then as she throws the flowers away, the video is over cranked, also as she walks away back into the house. The boy then drops his head into his hands, which links to the songs lyrics 'No Hope' which is repeated after this scene.
The video then surprisingly ends with the same scene that it started with. Which answers my questions, that at first he was running to someone, then at the end it flips around as he is running away, then jumps in the river.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S_3eEPpmKwE
