Fear becomes clear
And your still harping on
'cause I have been smoking weed
And she says I'm losing her
She says I'm losing it
And you call late at night, yeah
Hanging low with nowhere to go
Because late at night she says I'm losing her
Its always late at night when she says I'm losing it
Baby (x2)
Yeah with your long blonde hair (x8)
I cannot see
And you call late at night, yeah
Hanging low tonight
Because late at night she says I'm losing it
It's always late at night when she says I'm losing it
Baby (x4)

History of Indie Rock - Hollie

Indie rock can be loosely defined as a punk genre, guitar-based rock music. The means of producing that music, originated in the United Kingdom in the late 1970s and early 1980s as an alternative to the mainstream music of the time. The indie genre could be claimed, that it was mainly inspired by the Sex Pistols and the punk rock movement in the UK, which led to a more 'do it yourself' approach to music and inspired young people to form bands.
Many of the musicians who attended the two famous gigs by the Sex Pistols went on to form some of the important and critically acclaimed bands of the era. People who are believed to have attended these gigs include The Smith's front man Morrissey, Factory Records founder Tony Wilson, members of the Buzzcocks and The Fall's Mark E Smith.
In the United Kingdom, independent record labels were started, like Factory Records and Rough Trade. These labels released music by artists who perhaps the major labels weren't too interested to begin with - until they realised that there was actually a big market for the style of music. However, 'indie labels' gave a band more credibility than if they went with an unfashionable large and money-led label.
Some definitive British indie bands of the late 1970s and 1980s were The Smiths, The Specials, The Stone Roses, The Cure, Happy Mondays,The Jesus and Mary Chain , Orange Juice, My Bloody Valentine, Siouxsie along with the Banshees, whose classic music during this time directly influenced 1990s alternative genres such as shoegazing and also Britpop - which eventually went on to become independent and major labels. In the mid-1990s, led by Oasis and Blur, a list of Britpop indie bands dominated the singles and album charts in the UK. More conventional 'pop acts' were often beaten in sales by more guitar based indie acts. The Britpop genre included artists such as Pulp, Supergrass, The Verve, and Radiohead. This trend has continued into the present day, with bands such as Artic Monkeys, The Strokes, The Libertines , Klaxons etc, are still able to chart in the upper reaches of sales charts.

Research into the history of Indie Rock music - Becca
Indie rock is a genre of alternative rock that initiated in the UK and US in the 80's . Indie rock is very diverse, with sub-genres that include indie pop and jangle pop, among many others. Originally used to describe record labels, the term was then associated with the music they produced and was initially used along with alternative rock. As grunge and punk bands in the 90's, it came to be used to identify those acts that had an outsider and less testosterone-driven perspective. In the 2000's, as a result of changes in the music industry and the growing importance of the Internet, a number of indie rock acts began to enjoy commercial success by posting their own videos on sites such as YouTube.
Changes to initial ideas
Originally in our initial ideas our target audience was quite brief. We have slightly changed the age of people we are targeting from 25-30, to 25-35, it is only a slight change but because our band members are slightly old, we have decided to target older people rather than young people as we feel that a younger audience may not be mature enough for the bands style. We are also targeting middle, working class people because for our target audience research we are going to go to pubs, and we think we will find a large of amount of this type of people there. We will target male and females, but mainly male as we think they can relate to the music and lyrics more.
We have also changed our possible locations. We will no longer be going to the pier in Cleethorpes as we thought this was more of a boy band location, because if not filmed right then it could look slightly tacky and cheesy. We will probably stick to locations such as pubs, and set up a mini gig.
We originally put that we were going to make a performance based music video with the odd cut to narrative, however we have decided we do not want any narrative included as it may be difficult to find a background story to go with the lyrics of our song, therefore our music video will be all performance based.
Although we have made a few changes we are still keeping some of our initial ideas such as the bands style. We are keeping their style indie, but casual, as during our target research not many of the bands members were wearing stereotypical indie fashion such as converse, hats and braces.
We also still agree with, and like the codes and conventions which we originally wrote.

Institutions Island Records - Hollie
Chris Blackwell founded the Island label in Kingston, Jamaica in 1959 with capital of just £1000. Relocating to London in the early 60s Blackwell built the most diverse and enviable back catalogue of any independent record label in history. From Island's early Jamaican roots in ska and rock-steady, through the label's expansion to become the cutting edge of progressive rock in the late 60s, and then on to the signing of such international superstars as Bob Marley and U2, Blackwell brought to Island a unique vision and passion which still informs the label's approach to this day.
They have signed various artists, from opposite sides of the genre scale. Ranging from rapper and R&B singer Akon, to dubstep artists Avichii, to rock band Blink 182. They also signed with the very successful Bob Marley.
They have signed various indie artists such as Mumford and Sons, Florence and The Machine, Keane and Bombay Bicycle Club. I think this instition would be interested in our music because I think they are open to new ideas, and are open to a variety of genres, but they have also helped indie genre bands similiar to ours become very famous.
Similar Product Research - Hollie
Mumford and Sons - I will wait. This music video is also from an indie genre based band. This music video is also all performance based which allows us to see the artists facial expressions which show the joy they are feeling while they perform. The Arctic Monkeys video shared the performance based aspect and showed the facial expressions well, it looked more like a smaller scale club gig setting, and this band looks to be performing at a large concert. This helps portray how successful the band are and how large their fan base actually is. However, because the stage, audience and diegetic crowd noise is so large, my team will be unable to create anything as similar to this in our music video. Therefore we will probably aim to make our music video look more like the Arctic Monkeys video. The stage is full of musical instruments to yet again show off the bands talents and what they are capable of and this has influenced me to include many instruments on the set of our video.
I have discovered throughout my research that the camera shots and angles are very similar throughout all of the indie genre music videos. They all contain lots of close up shots of the band members singing and playing their instruments but also contain a lot of long shots which include the whole of the band, or which show the large crowd cheering. The lighting on most of the performance based videos I have watched are all artificial, not natural, so in my music video, if we are shooting a scene inside, I will aim to include lots of artificial lighting. The mise-en-scene of this indie music video is very similiar to others that I have watched. Very similiar clothing, such as hats, braces and also the amount of instruments such as guitars and drums adds to the mise-en-scene of "indie".
I like the amount of instruments used within this video, and how all of the musicians play them and use them, I would like to include this in my music video because it helps portray the 'Indie' stereotype.
